10. The Load Out / Stay
Jackson Browne
Now we got country and western on the bus
R and B, we got disco in eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We’ve got rural scenes & magazines
We’ve got truckers on the CB
We’ve got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play
9. Outlaw Blues
Bob Dylan
Ain’t gonna hang no picture
Ain’t gonna hang no picture frame
Well, I might look like Robert Ford
But I feel just like a Jesse James!
8. Semi Suite
Tom Waits
The only place a man can breathe …
And collect his thoughts
Is at midnight flying away on the road…
But when you hear his engines
You’re lookin’ through the window in the kitchen and you know
You’re always gonna be there when he calls …‘Cause he’s a truck drivin’ man
Stoppin’ when he can
7. The Road
Jackson Browne
Well it isn’t for the money
And it’s only for a while
You stalk about the rooms
And you roll away the miles
Gamblers in the neon, clinging to guitars
You’re right about the moon
But you’re wrong about the stars
And when you stop to let ’em know
You got it down
It’s just another town along the road
6. Running on Empty
Jackson Browne
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up 101
I don’t know where I’m running now, I’m just running on
5. Song to Woody
Bob Dylan
Here’s to Cisco and Sonny and Leadbelly too
And to all the good people that traveled with you
Here’s to the hearts and the hands of the men
That come with the dust and are gone with the windI’m leaving tomorrow, but I could leave today
Somewhere down the road someday
The very last thing that I’d want to do
Is to say I’ve been hittin’ some hard travelin’ too
4. The Weight
The Band
Catch a cannon ball now to take me down the line,
My bag is sinkin’ low and I do believe it’s time,
To get back to Miss Fannie, you know she’s the only one,
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone.
3. Doolin-Dalton
Eagles
Go down Bill Dalton, it must be God’s will,
Two brothers lyin dead in Coffeeville –
Two voices call to you from where they stood,
“Lay down your lawbooks now, they’re no damn good.”
2. On the Road Again
Willie Nelson
On the road again, going places that I’ve never been,
Seeing things that I may never see again,
And I can’t wait to get on the road again.
1. Shaky Town
I stedet for at forklare lader vi Browne selv tage over.
This is a song from the Running on Empty album. A song that was written by my good friend, Danny Kortchmar. Kootch. Danny Kootch wrote the song. We had been staying up every night trying to write songs about the road and after about a week or two he finally played me this song that was already written… and I said that’s it. That’s the song. It’s a truck driving song. It’s not an easy thing to write if you’re from Scarsdale. But the truckers that would drive on my tour, and would be driving my tours since then, and before…
Anyway, this is a truck driving song written by Danny Kortchmar, called Shaky Town. That’s what they call Los Angeles, Shaky Town.
I’ve witnessed those one night stands…
must’ve played in a thousand bands…
but I’m just here tonight, tomorrow I’ll be gone.
